This vehicle was equipped with advanced technologies onboard rapid charger system, was selected due to its zero-emissions, high-speed capacity, charge time, and overall functionality for the EPA’s Near-Road Air Quality Study. The vehicle was used by EPA’s Office of Research & Development (ORD) to study the air pollutant concentrations along with major roadways that was of a great concern to the health of people working at nearby places. The vehicle was fitted with air quality measurement instruments to check the pollution as it gives the ability to evaluate the major factors impacting near- road air quality, such as traffic levels, meteorological conditions, and surrounding topography. Li-ion Motors PT is one of the world’s only production model high-speed electric vehicles and was originally developed as a part of SPACE ACT Agreement with NASA. In October 2007, Li-ion Motors smart car was the "Once in a Life Time" package offered to Sam's Club members in the 2007 holiday catalog. The package was offered for $35,000.
